About Us

Our Church

GateWay City Church is ONE church in multiple cities within California and this is the first campus in Arizona! As a church, our heart is to inspire transformed lives and create opportunities for people to know Jesus, experience community, discover purpose and make a difference in the world around us.

Campus Pastors

As soon as Pastors Albert and Genny surrendered their lives to Christ at the age 17, God placed in them a passion to love and reach broken people. After serving as Youth Pastors for 10 years and 3 years as Young Adult Pastors at Gateway City Church – San Jose, God began to stir up the memories of along time dream to start a church.

The call and desire in their heart to uproot their life in the Bay Area and move to Gilbert was strong, and God used Gateway City Church lead pastor David Cannistraci to confirm their call.  God told Pastor David that Gateway City Church would expand to 10 cities through a multisite vision and when he heard Albert and Genny’s heart for the Phoenix area, he agreed that this was part of God’s plan.

Albert and Genny feel honored and excited that Jesus would choose them to show His heart, vision and love to people. They are here to meet and come alongside anyone in need. Gateway City Church Phoenix-Gilbert is a place where everyone from every background, nationality and age can belong.  If you want to live a life of purpose, a new start, healing, freedom, discipleship, and a place to call home, Albert and Genny want to welcome you to Gateway City Church in Gilbert, AZ.

Our Values

Jesus: Our Reason

Jesus, His great love and beautiful sacrifice is what drives us and keeps us going. We know and believe in the power of Jesus. Jesus brings healing, restoration, meaning, purpose, life, joy and so much more. We strive to keep Him at the center of everything we do and share His love with everyone we meet.

Love God, love people. People are God’s heart so they’re our heart.  God’s love transcends race, age, backgrounds and culture and we love all people. This is the place to belong, feel safe, find purpose, be respected and heard.

The more we serve, the more joy we receive.  Whether it’s serving God, each other or our community, when we give we are filled. We serve with authenticity, enthusiasm and a joy that only comes from above.

We don’t take the words of Jesus lightly, and believe it is our mission to reach and help the lost and the broken. We’re not here just to help one type of demographic but everyone that is in need. We’re here to physically help and make a positive impact in the community, city, nation and the world.

Nothing in this world compares to the presence of the living God. God’s presence brings peace, joy, confidence, strength, direction, and everything we could ever want or need. We experience His presence when we’re in relationship with Him and want to His presence to be known by everyone we come in contact with.

The Church is the gathering and fellowship of God’s people. When people come together to encourage each other, love each other, help each other and seek God together, it is an unstoppable force. We believe in doing life together in and outside of the Church building.

You can’t have Jesus if you don’t have faith, and we need Jesus so we a life in faith.  We don’t have the answers for everything but we trust in the One who knows and holds everything.

Our generosity is a natural response to God’s goodness and faithfulness to us. Nothing we have is our own byproduct. Everything we have is a gift from God and we choose to share our gifts with anyone who needs it.

Our History

Our journey began in 1970, in Sunnyvale, when God called Pastors Emanuele and Shirley Cannistraci to lead our church – then known as Calvary Gospel Temple. We were a small group of 60 members at that time, but God had much bigger plans.  Within a few short years, our membership swelled to over 150.  Young people were being saved and joining the church during an era of revival now known as the Jesus Movement.

God provided a new location in Mountain View in 1976, and our church was renamed Church of the Crossroads. Three years later we sold this property and moved, completely debt-free, into our Willow Glen location. Our church was renamed Evangel Christian Fellowship in the Spring of 1980.

Throughout the 80’s and 90’s, as our church continued to grow, families were sent out as local missionaries, staff and ministries were added, programs expanded, and churches were planted.  We have been blessed by a clean record of financial integrity and moral living in our leadership team.

In September of 2000, Pastors David and Kathy Cannistraci were installed as the Lead Pastors of Evangel.  Pastor David’s heart for more expansion, ministry development and creating an outreach culture resulted in greater growth, and it soon became clear that our church facility was too small.

After a long property search and several attempts to relocate our growing ministry, our church purchased its present facility in South San Jose and became GateWay City Church.

Our name came about because God was making a “gateway of hope in the valley of trouble” (Hosea 2:15).

Over the past decade, GateWay has experienced continuous growth and health. In late 2014, we became a multi-site church and in 2016, we developed a vision to reach ten cities through this strategy.

The future of GateWay is as bright as the promises of God. Our hearts are filled with faith to fulfill the vision of inspiring transformed lives.
